New German Immigration Act 2023 to attract skilled foreign workers

Germany's new skilled migration law: The classic route for skilled workers

The German government wants to make it easier for skilled foreign workers to enter the country by removing administrative hurdles and guaranteeing fair working conditions.

Skilled foreign workers will be able to work in the professions if they have professional experience or a university degree. university degree equivalent. This measure will help meet the German economy's need for skilled workers.

Minimum wage: an obligation for employers

Employers offering jobs to foreign workers will have to guarantee fair working conditions, including a minimum wage. This requirement will prevent any exploitation of foreign workers and ensure fair and equitable working conditions.

Recognition of foreign professional qualifications

Under Germany's new Skilled Immigration Act, foreign workers will be able to have their professional qualifications recognized after their arrival in Germany, instead of before their arrival, as is currently the case. This measure is designed to facilitate the arrival of skilled foreign workers in Germany, while enabling the German authorities to ensure that these workers have the necessary skills to fill the positions on offer.

Job-seeking visas for foreign workers in Germany

Visit opportunity map or visa de recherche d'emploi is a new measure introduced to allow foreign workers to come to Germany to look for a job. This measure is particularly useful for foreign workers who want to change jobs, or for those who want to move to Germany to look for work.

Opportunity card allows foreign workers to stay in Germany for six monthswith the option of extending the stay once for a further six months.

Short-term use authorized in certain cases

The German government also wants to make it easier to hire foreign workers on a short-term basis for temporary needs, regardless of special qualification requirements.

Skilled foreign workers can now obtain a short-term work permit for up to six months to take up a job for which they have been previously qualified. This permit can be extended once for a further six months.

In addition, skilled foreign workers who have obtained employment in Germany can now apply for a permanent residence permit after just two years' employment, compared with the previous requirement of five years.

In conclusion, the reform of the Skilled Workers Act aims to stimulate the immigration of skilled workers from third countries, by removing unnecessary bureaucratic barriers and offering facilities for foreign workers with professional qualifications. These reforms should strengthen Germany's position as a leader in higher and vocational education, and enable it to compete with other countries for talent and skilled labor.
