Biden pledged to introduce a comprehensive immigration reform bill to Congress within the first 100 days of his administration. Indeed, last month, Biden introduced a bill that would provide a pathway to U.S. citizenship for young people whose parents brought them to the U.S. as children, known as Dreamers. The bill allows immigrant farm workers and those with protected status, who have come to the states since the 1990s due to natural disasters and other unrest in their home countries, to obtain green cards; those not registered in the U.S. will be able to obtain cards after five years. The bill also eases immigration schedules for foreign nationals and reduces waiting times for those who currently wait up to 20 years to join family.
