Any foreign student planning to study in Quebec for more than 6 months as part of a training cycle must be admitted to or enrolled in a recognized educational institution (designated educational institution). A designated educational institution designated (EED) is either accredited by the Ministère de l'Éducation et de l'Enseignement supérieur or any other Quebec ministry. This admission is mandatory to obtain a Certificat d'acceptation du Québec (CAQ) and to benefit from Canada's right to stay and study.

Obtaining a study permit in Québec
A study permit is required in most cases for foreign students wishing to study in Canada. Some specific situations may not. Find out more about situations requiring a study permit.
You must apply for a study permit before coming to Canada. Only certain people can apply for a study permit as soon as they arrive in Canada. Before you apply, you must have an attestation of acceptance from a recognized educational institution in Canada.
How you apply for a study permit depends on whether you're applying from outside Canada, within the country or at the entry counter. Find out more about your options.
Your study permit is not a travel document. Your permit allows you to study in Canada, but you may also need a visitor's visa (temporary resident visa) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter Canada.
Once your application and permit have been issued, and if you don't already have a passport that allows you to go directly to Canada or a visitor's visa, a simple visa application accompanied by your study permit automatically entitles you to a visa to enter Canada.
